Meet Your Instructor

I’m a native Floridian and am the owner and lead instructor of Fins Up Swim School. I’ve always had a love for the water and teaching but transitioned directly into office work after graduating and realized I was struggling to find my “why” and purpose in these roles I was taking on.  In 2022, I decided to take a leap of faith and start Fins Up so that I could do something that I love and am passionate about.

Every year families all over suffer tragic pool accidents that could have been prevented by implementing layers of safety.  Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children ages 1-4 in Florida.  In addition to constant supervision and pool barriers, swim lessons are an extra line of defense that can help protect your family.

I started Fins Up because I am passionate about teaching water safety while making learning to swim fun. My goal is to equip my students with the confidence and water safety skills needed to master independent swimming and help reduce the risk of a tragic accident for your family.

Mabel did such a great job providing swim lessons to my 9-month-old baby girl. She was so wonderful to work with and very accommodating. I will definitely do it again in the future.

Lesnick Family

I’m so glad we chose Fins Up for our son! Not only does he look forward to his lessons, but he has learned so much. She gained Ollie’s trust quickly and we felt so comfortable. They are experienced, professional, and the best at what they do. I can’t recommend them enough! Thank you, Fins Up, for giving us the peace of mind of knowing our son has all the tools he needs.

Zamora Family

Our son absolutely loves Ms. Mabel! She gained quick rapport with him (despite his usual shyness with strangers) and we have been so pleased with our lessons thus far. Highly recommend!!!!

FAQs

When are classes offered?

Lessons begin in April and run through the end of September. Year-round lessons will be considered for those who have access to heated pools.

What areas do you service?

We currently service homes within 10 miles of Winter Park.

How often should lessons take place?

We recommend classes should be as often as 2-3 times a week for several months at a time. We want our students to be water safe as soon as possible. With 2-3 lessons a week, children will learn new concepts and apply them consistently until it becomes muscle memory.

What do you require for swim lessons to take place?

Access to a private or community pool as well as a safe environment for our students and instructors. This includes a comfortable water temperature and a hazard free pool deck.

The American Red Cross has developed water temperature guidelines based on age group and the length of lessons.
Infant/preschool aquatics: ≥89.6º F for 20-30 minutes.
Learn to swim (ages 6- 15): ≥ 84.2º F for 30-45 minutes.

What is your cancellation policy?

We request individual cancellations be made at least 24 hours in advance. If you or your child feels sick before class please let us know 12 hours in advance. Weather cancellations will be made by your instructor 30-45 minutes prior to the scheduled lesson start time.

How do I register and pay for lessons?

Please complete our registration form to request lessons. Once contacted and a confirmed start date/time has been set, an invoice will be sent via email. You must secure your lesson schedule with a 50% deposit. The remaining balance will be billed halfway through the completion of your package.
